HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College swept the three doubles matches, before adding two wins in singles, for a 5-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Quarterfinal victory past the University of Lynchburg on Tuesday at the H-SC Tennis Courts. The #2 seed Tigers improved to 12-9 overall with their seven consecutive win, while the visiting #7 seed Hornets dropped to 8-10 overall.
In doubles, junior brothers Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. won at No. 1, 8-0. Junior Grayson Burns/Waynesboro and sophomore William Driskill/Middleburg won at No. 2, 8-2. Junior Clark Cummings/Norfolk and freshman Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, N.C. won at No. 3, 8-4.
In singles, Driskill won at No. 3 by scores of 6-0, 6-1, while Brice won at No. 6 by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Also playing in singles when the match ended were Matthew Moody at No. 1 (6-1, 5-2), Michael Moody at No. 2 (6-1, 2-3), Burns at No. 4 (6-1, 2-3) and Cummings at No. 5 (6-3, 5-2).
H-SC, with nine wins in its last 10 contests, advances to play an ODAC Tournament Semifinal match against No. 3 seed Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at VWU's Everett Tennis Center in Virginia Beach. The Marlins advanced with a 5-2 win past #6 seed Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday in Virginia Beach.
The ODAC Championship match is set for Sunday, May 5, at 10 a.m.
