ORLANDO, Fla. -- Hampden-Sydney College took five of six singles contests, and all three doubles matches, for an 8-1 non-conference tennis victory past the University of Scranton (Pa.) on Friday in Orlando, Florida. The Tigers improved their record to 2-5 overall, remaining 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Playing the singles first, junior Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. won at No. 1 by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Classmate and brother Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. won at No. 2 by scores of 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (12-10). Sophomore William Driskill/Middleburg won at No. 3 by scores of 7-5, 6-2. Junior Clark Cummings/Norfolk won at No. 5 by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Alex Zorko/Heusenstamm, Germany won at No. 6 by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Junior Grayson Burns/Waynesboro fell at No. 4 by scores of 7-6 (3), 5-7, 0-1 (3).
In doubles, Matthew Moody and Driskill won at No. 1, 8-7 (2). Michael Moody and sophomore Andrew Donelson/McLean won at No. 2, 8-3. Cummings and freshman Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, N.C. won at No. 3, 8-4
H-SC was scheduled to complete its Spring Break trip with a final match against NCAA Division II Rockhurst (Mo.) on Friday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. in Orlando, Florida.
