Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Earns Road Win At Roanoke 13-10

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Sophomore Jake O'Brien/Scituate, Mass. scored four goals to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 13-10 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse road victory at Roanoke College on Saturday in Salem.  Sophomore Jared Medwar/Apex, N.C. added three goals and one assist for the visiting Tigers (11-3, 6-1), while senior captain John Burke/Richmond had one goal and two assists against the host Maroons (9-6, 5-3).

H-SC and RC played evenly in the first quarter, tied at 3-3 after 15 minutes.  Medwar (3g, 1a) and Burke (1g, 2a) scored the first two goals of the contest at 13:18 and 12:26, respectively.  Medwar was assisted by Burke, who followed with an unassisted goal.  Sophomore Davis Hatch/Mechanicsville (1g) followed with a goal at 7:14, also assisted by Burke.

The Tigers took control with a 6-3 scoring advantage in the second quarter to lead 9-6 at halftime.  Sophomore Jake Brummett/Glen Rock, Pa. (1g) got it started with another face-off win and unassisted breakaway goal at 11:42, the first of three-straight goals, as freshman Sean Duffy/Ambler, Pa. (1g, 1a) followed at 9:06 and O'Brien (4g) scored again at 8:45.  Duffy tallied unassisted, while O'Brien was assisted by Medwar.  O'Brien added two more goals during the period at 6:26 and 2:30, while Medwar scored at 5:20.  Senior Anton Kheirani/Alexandria (1a) provided the assist on O'Brien's goal at 6:26, while the latter two goals of the quarter were both unassisted.

H-SC outscored the Maroons 3-2 in the third quarter to lead 12-8 after 45 minutes.  Scoring goals were O'Brien (unassisted) at 3:15, Medwar (unassisted) at 0:33 and junior Jack Hayden/Apex, N.C. (1g) at 0:17, assisted by Duffy.

RC managed a 2-1 scoring edge in the fourth quarter to provide for the final margin.  Sophomore Charlie Doetzer/Holly Springs, N.C. (1g) closed the scoring for the Tigers with an unassisted goal at 2:46.

Junior captain and goalie Nick Arcuri/Apex, N.C. started and played the entire 60:00, allowing the 10 goals while making 20 saves.

Brummett was 15-25 on face-offs, and collected 11 ground balls.  Senior John Kline/New Cumberland, Pa., sophomore Canevin Wallace/Annapolis, Md. and freshman Henry Hitt/Annapolis, Md. each had four ground balls.

H-SC is scheduled to play on the road again at ODAC member Bridgewater College on Wednesday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in Bridgewater.
