BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College's B Golf Team posted a final-round score of 300 on Tuesday for a 36-hole team score of 621 (321-300) to finish 13th among 17 teams at the VSGA Intercollegiate played at the Blacksburg Country Club in Blacksburg. Sophomore Sam McNamara/Charlottesville led the Tigers with his 79-74--153, tying for 32nd individually among the 93 golfers.
McNamara posted two birdies and 13 pars during his round at the par 72, 6,619-yard layout. He was followed by freshman Trevor Elliott/Richmond (85-69--154, T-35th), junior Varun Yerramsetti/Birmingham, Ala. (79-78--157, T-49th), senior John David Gooden/Myrtle Beach, S.C. (80-81--161, T-65th), and sophomore Jimmy Hill/Mechanicsville (83-79--162, T-69th). Elliott had five birdies and 11 pars during his round of 69, which tied for second-lowest of the day and fourth-best of the event. Yerramsetti had one birdie and 13 pars, Gooden added one birdie and eight pars, and Hill contributed one birdie and nine pars on the day.
Christopher Newport University (293-287) and the University of Lynchburg (282-298) tied for first with respective 36-hole scores of 580, while Elias Haavisto of Averett University was the individual medalist at eight-under 67-69--136. The event featured most of the state's Division II and III schools as well as The Apprentice School.
CNU and Lynchburg were followed by Averett (584), Mary Washington (585), along with Washington and Lee's B Team (596) and Virginia Union (596) among the top five.
