HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College's B Golf Team posted a first-round score of 295 on Monday to stand in a tie for third among 17 teams at the Tom Kinder Memorial at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg. Freshman Alex Rubino/Charlotte, N.C. is leading the Tigers with his day one score of even par 72, tied for sixth individually among 88 golfers.
Playing the Mountain/Lake course, a par 72, 6,702-yard layout, Rubino posted one birdie and 16 pars in his opening round. He is being followed by junior Varun Yerramsetti/Birmingham, Ala. (73, T-13), sophomore Sam McNamara/Charlottesville (74, T-19), freshman Trevor Elliott/Richmond (76, T-41), along with senior John David Gooden/Myrtle Beach, S.C. (82, T-70). Yerramsetti and McNamara each posted four birdies for the Tigers, and McNamara added an eagle, while Elliott and Gooden had three and two birdies, respectively.
McDaniel is leading the event with its 290, while Hunter Shelton of Ferrum is the individual leader at three-under 69.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the tournament on Tuesday.
