HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Hampden-Sydney College golf team is ranked 18th in the latest Golfstat NCAA Division III Top 25, while ranked eighth in the extremely strong South Region. In addition, four Tigers are ranked highly among the national individual rankings, including junior standout Bruce Shober/Appomattox, who is ranked 13th in Division III and fourth in the South Region with his 72.18 scoring average.
Other top H-SC golfers ranked nationally include freshman John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount (73.45), who is 63rd in DIII and 28th in the region; senior Jamie Agnew/Fairfax (75.25), who is 132nd in DIII and 36th in the region; along with sophomore Allen Smith/Durham, N.C. (74.91), who is 168th in DIII and 54th in the region.
The Tigers, coached by Director of Athletics Chad Eisele, have earned five Top 10 team finishes in five tournaments this year, including this week's outstanding third-place effort at The Club at Savannah Harbor Classic (298-297--595) in Savannah, Georgia. The Tigers defeated six Top 20 teams among nine nationally-ranked programs overall, including top-ranked Emory (Ga.), No. 4 Wittenberg (Ohio), No. 9 Guilford (N.C.), No. 12 North Carolina Wesleyan, No. 13 Washington and Lee and No. 18 Greensboro (N.C.).
H-SC is scheduled to play again at the TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate on March 11-12 at the Dataw Island Club on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina.
