Senior post players Nick Chase, Guilherme Guimaraes, and Hunter Kuehn were named captains for the basketball team for the 2017-18 season.

"Our three seniors have done a nice job leading our young team through the summer and into our fall preseason," stated Head Coach Dee Vick. "They have earned their teammate's respect and our coaching staff has full confidence they are prepared for this opportunity; therefore, we decided to name all three captains for the 2017-2018 season. Gui gives us great energy and plays with a passion that is contagious. Hunter has worked consistently on his post game and has developed a great jump hook. He plays hard on every possession, leads by example, and when he speaks, his teammates listen. Nick is in great shape and has the necessary toughness to succeed in this league. His unselfishness and nose for the ball are key ingredients that make him an effective leader and a strong rebounder. All three are ready to have a great senior year and we will go as far as they lead us. It is their team."

Chase played in 21 games with 10 starts as a junior, averaging career-highs of 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds. He scored a season-high 20 points against Averett and William Peace.

Guimaraes averaged 7.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest in 26 games. He shot 55.6% from the floor. He posted a season-high 22 points vs. Messiah and recorded a 16-point, 10-rebound double double against Washington and Lee.

Kuehn shot 66.7% from the field as a junior while playing in all 27 games and starting 10 contests. He was named as the team's Most Improved Player. He contributed season-highs of 12 points and 8 rebounds at Shenandoah.

Hampden-Sydney opens the regular season at home vs. Averett University on November 15 at 7 pm.
