Senior basketball student-athlete Nick Chase was awarded the President's Award at opening convocation. The award is given to the student with the highest GPA in Natural Sciences & Mathematics. Chase has previously been the recipient of the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award for academic excellence, the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award, and the award for freshman excellence in general chemistry. He also has gone on numerous mission trips during his time at Hampden-Sydney.
"I have known Nick for a long time now and have seen his depth of character revealed in multiple facets of his life," said Head Coach Dee Vick. "He perseveres through challenges and this is certainly evident in his commitment to academic excellence at H-SC. I am really proud of Nick for earning this special achievement. This truly illustrates his desire to exceed expectations and is another example of his resolve. A's are not easy to earn at Hampden-Sydney, but he manages to consistently earn them."
Additionally, Chase, Josh Katowitz, and Gui Guimaraes were each sworn in as student leaders.
