Tiger Trio Returns from Successful Europe Trip

Harrison George, Dee Vick, and Khobi Williamson

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Head coach Dee Vick and All-ODAC Tigers Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville) and Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA/Maury) recently represented Hampden-Sydney on the All-Star Team in Europe. Vick led the ten man roster to an 11-1 record against professional competition while capturing two tournament championships. The ten-day, 12-game trip consisted of stops in France, Holland, and Amsterdam.

Not only did the group enjoy success on the court, but it also had a once-in-a-lifetime experience off the court.

"This was a life changing event for this group of all-stars and me," said Vick. "We were able to immerse ourselves in many different cultures, and we were constantly being stimulated by the incredible history along the way."

The trip began in France where the team was able to take a walking tour through Notre Dame, visit the Louvre, and saw the Eiffel Tower. From Paris, they visited small cities in Holland such as Rotterdam, Den Bosch, and Groningen.

"The cities in Holland were great for us, offering similar historic relevance without traffic and large populations," added the coach.

From the slow paced life in Holland, the group went to Amsterdam - or the "Netherlands' version of Las Vegas" as noted by Vick. "The streets were full of people from all over the world, and the city never sleeps."

On the court, the group excelled. Playing their first game on the same day they arrived, the players trailed by as much as 16 to the Charenton Basketball Club. In the fourth quarter, however, the team "began to play the kind of basketball that [they] believed they could," recalled George. The team roared back, and trailing by two with 30 seconds to play, "Khobi received a pass along the baseline in which he gathered and rose up for a one-handed, and-one game winning dunk."

After suffering their lone loss to Tremblay Athletique Basketball Club, the All-Stars won the Dutch Police Academy Tournament and another tournament in Groningen. They also won the rest of their games and continued to explore Europe.

"This trip was a great experience, and I am humbled and honored to be selected to the D3Hoops All-Star Team," George reflected. "Not only was I able to meet so many different people throughout this adventure, but I was also able to experience it with a teammate and coach. The trip was unique and will be something I will be telling others about the rest of my life."
