HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-On Saturday, September 12, the Hampden-Sydney Football Tigers will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Newport News to face the Captains of Christopher Newport University for the fourth meeting between the two schools. The Tigers own a 2-1 advantage in the series, winning both meetings at Everett Stadium but falling 17-7 in the only meeting thus far at POMOCO Stadium in 2013.
The Tigers fell 35-3 in their season opener to #10 Wabash while Christopher Newport defeated The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) 31-21 in its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) debut. The Captains have moved to the NJAC from the USA South, where they won ten conference championships - including the 2014 title.
Saturday will mark the first of two straight road games for the Tigers before their bye week. Following their match up at Ferrum and an off week, the team will get right into conference play, hosting Catholic on October 3 to kick off seven straight conference games.
