LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Junior Chase Counts/Virginia Beach had two hits and four RBIs, while classmate Jonathan Triesler/Chesterfield had two hits and two RBIs, to lead Hampden-Sydney College to an 11-6 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball road win at the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday in Lynchburg. Junior Cameron Meyers/Benson, N.C. earned the pitching win in relief for the visiting Tigers (8-8-1, 2-3 ODAC) against the host Hornets (7-11, 2-3 ODAC).

H-SC had 11 runs on 13 hits … scoring four runs in the first inning, two in the second and five in the eighth.  The Tigers led 6-1 after two innings and 6-3 through six, before UL tied it at 6-6 with three runs in the seventh.  H-SC rallied with five runs in the eighth for the five-run road triumph.

In the first, junior Andrew Kasiski/Chesapeake (1-4, RBI) singled to score senior Blake Hartman/Chester (3-5), who had opened the game with a single, as well.  Counts (2-4, 4 RBIs) reached via a throwing error while putting down a sacrifice bunt that allowed junior Jacob Bartlett/Chesterfield (1-3) to cross the plate … Bartlett had reached on a fielding error.  Senior Tyler Blevins/Draper (1-3, RBI) added a sacrifice fly RBI that scored Kasiski, and Counts crossed the plate via an RBI single by junior Josh Duimstra/Glen Allen(1-4, RBI).

In the second, Counts added a two-run single that scored Triesler (2-4, 2 RBIs) and Hartman, who had each singled, as well.

In the decisive eighth, Triesler provided what proved to be the game-winning hit with a clutch two-out, two-run single that plated Blevins and sophomore Ryan Clawson/Moseley (2-5), who had walked and singled, respectively.  Triesler would cross the plate when Kasiski reached on another fielding error, and Counts contributed another two-run single for more insurance runs that scored Hartman and Bartlett, who had singled and been hit-by-a-pitch, respectively.

Freshman Kieran Conway/Chesapeake started and pitched the first 4.2 innings, yielding two hits, three runs, one earned, with four strikeouts and three walks.  Senior Trey Celata/Chesapeake went 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs, both earned, with no strikeouts and one walk.  Classmate Charles Murrah/Tallahassee, Fla. pitched two-thirds of an inning, yielding two hits and one run, earned, with one strikeout and one walk.  Meyers (1-1) tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing no hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

H-SC will return home to welcome ODAC member Eastern Mennonite University for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23, beginning at 12 p.m. at Yank Bernier Fieldat the Ty Cobb Ballpark - Wurdeman Stadium.
