HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney baseball Tigers will play three games this week with a USA South match up against Greensboro and the 2012 ODAC opener against Guilford in a Saturday double header. The Tigers will play all three contests at home with a Tuesday game against Greensboro at 3:00 pm and a 12:00 pm showdown with the Quakers on Saturday. Tuesday vs. Greensboro: The Pride, picked to finish seventh in the highly competitive USA South, currently stand at 7-5 overall and 2-2 in conference having its three game win streak broken by back-to-back losses to Christopher Newport. The Pride hold a 1-0 edge over the Tigers this season, having taken a 4-1 decision in Greensboro last Tuesday. Freshman James Feldman has the hot bat hitting .425 with 17 hits in 40 at bats. On the bump, the Pride are led by 2011 All-USA South honoree Jacob Candle and David Schilling's combined 4-1 record while the team staff boasts a 3.05 ERA.
Saturday Guilford: The Tigers will open up ODAC action with a home double header against the Guilford Quakers. Guilford currently stands at 8-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play after splitting a double header against Lynchburg College. This week, Guilford will play two games against Immaculata (Mar. 6) and two games against Piedmont (Mar. 7-8) before coming to Ty Cobb Ballpark. Offensively, the Quakers are batting .336 as a team with two players hitting well over .400 in Kent Peterson (.488) and John Macon Smith (.447). Freshman Justin Morrison holds the best record on the mound at 2-1 in his two starts. The pitching staff boasts a 4.07 ERA with opponents batting .284 against them.
