Griswold Named Head Cross Country Coach

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Hampden-Sydney Director of Athletics Chad Eisele has announced the hiring of Matt Griswold as the head cross country coach and director of club sports and intramurals.

"We are thrilled with the addition of Matt to our coaching staff," said Eisele. "His extensive background in athletics, both in coaching and administration, will help raise the level of our cross country program and foster a strong club sport and intramural presence."

Griswold is a veteran high school administrator and coach, coaching baseball, football, wrestling, and track, and serving as the Athletic Director of South Putnam Middle and High School (IN) for seven years.

"I am thrilled to be joining Hampden-Sydney College in support of its unique and special mission of forming good men and good citizens," Griswold stated. "It will be an honor to work with an exceptional group of student-athletes and the tremendous staff in the athletic department."

As an Athletic Director, Griswold's coaches and teams attained success at the highest levels, including state championships and several Indiana High School Athletic Association sportsmanship awards. During his tenure he also served as event coordinator, running numerous cross country and track meets at the conference and state level.

An avid runner, Griswold enjoys ultra trail running and participating in a wide range of sports.

Griswold begins immediately.
