Cross Country Picked Ninth in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, VA - Hampden-Sydney Cross Country was picked ninth in the ODAC Preseason Poll, as voted on by league coaches. H-SC garnered 26 points, beating out Emory & Henry (17 points) and Randolph (14 points).

The Tigers return seven runners from a year ago but boast one of its largest recruiting classes ever with eight athletes. The large roster will give the Tigers much more depth and will make practices and meets even more competitive with so many runners vying for one of the top five spots on the squad.

Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA / Mills E. Godwin) and Andrew Craver (East Bend, NC / Forbush) will lead the returning contingent once again. Stoddard, a junior, and Craver, a senior, posted the six best 8K times on the team last year. Stoddard lead with the top three times of 27:29, 27:51, and 28:08. He also posted the sixth fastest time at 29:16. Craver finished fourth and fifth in 28:39 and 28:51.

Yonathan Tarekegne Ararso (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia / Woodberry Forest) took home the seventh and ninth quickest times, completing courses in 29:28 and 31:12. Henry Loehr (Free Union, VA / Western Albemarle / George Mason) rounded out the top ten it a 31:22. Ned Belliveau (Lexington, VA / Rockbridge County) posted a top 8K time of 21:10 in 2011 while David Barrett (Virginia Beach, VA / Norfolk Academy) ran a 34:07, and Brett Crocker (Troutville, VA / Lord Botetourt) clocked in with a season best of 33:39.

Newcomers to the team include Stephen Brewer (Troutville, VA / Lord Botetourt), Drew Fletcher (Arlington, VA / Bishop O'Connell), Jesus Gallegos (Crewe, VA / Nottoway), David Joseph Hart (Virginia Beach, VA / First Colonial), William Imeson (Harrisonburg, VA / Harrisonburg), Andrew Martinez (Dallas, TX / Bishop Dunne Catholic), Ben Samlall (Warrenton, VA / Fauquier), and Braxton Terry (Pulaski, VA / John Handley).
