Cross Country student-athletes Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA / Mills E. Godwin) and Brett Crocker (Troutville, VA / Lord Botetourt) excelled at the Richmond Fred Hardy Invitational outdoor track meet on Friday.
In a meet featuring teams from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, the Tigers placed ninth at the Great American Cross Country Festival while Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) placed 24th, beating several Division I and II runners in the process.
Yonathan Tarekegne Ararso (Addis Adaba, Ethiopia/Woodberry Forest), David Barrett (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy), Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt), and Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) were recently named to the ODAC All-Academic team for the 2010-11 academic year.
The Hampden-Sydney cross country team traveled to Southern Virginia University Saturday morning to participate in what is now a dying breed: a dual meet. H-SC defeated the host team and owned four of the top six attached runners.
The cross country team opened their season at the Hornet Challenge, located in Bedford, VA, at the Claytor Nature Center - this year's location for the ODAC Championship. Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) stole the show for the Tigers, finishing in second place with a time of 28:08.
The 2011 rendition of the cross country team will look to rely on a solid returning cast that features its two top runners from a year ago in junior Andrew Craver (East Bend, NC/Forbush) and sophomore Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin). The Tigers were picked in a tie for seventh in the ODAC Preseason Poll, finishing with 27 points.
The Hampden-Sydney cross country team competed in their second track meet of the spring as they traveled to Liberty University to participate in the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. Andrew Craver (East Bend, NC/Forbush) ran the 800 meters in 2:11.59, Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) was fourth in the B section of the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:26.56, and Matt Burnette (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) jumped 5’10.5” in the high jump.
The Hampden-Sydney cross country team participated in their final track meet of the year as the Tigers traveled to Lynchburg, VA, to take part in the Lynchburg College Track Classic.
Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) put on a fine performance in the 5,000 meter run as he finished in second place, first amongst all college runners, with a time of 15:58.
The Hampden-Sydney College cross country team continued the recent tradition of competing in track meets in the spring season as they traveled to Lexington, VA, over the weekend to compete in the W&L-VMI Track & Field Carnival
The Hampden-Sydney cross country team ran at the William & Mary Tribe Open on Saturday. Team scores were not kept at the event that featured mostly Division I teams such as William and Mary, Richmond, and Hampton.
Four Tigers runners posted their collegiate best time on Friday at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, NC. The field of competitors consisted mostly of Division I teams. Duke University, ranked #10 nationally in Division I, won the meet with 26 points as the Blue Devils’ Dominick Robinson was the top runner with a time of 24:43.
The contingent of Hampden-Sydney cross country underclassmen had another strong showing today at the Maroon Invitational as freshman Andrew Stoddard (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) finished 10th in a time of 30:37 and the team finished fourth out of nine team with 101 points.
The Hampden-Sydney College cross country team opened their season yesterday evening at the Randolph College Invitational, collecting 38 points to finish fourth and narrowly edge Randolph College, who earned 39 points. Two Tiger runners placed in the top 20 underneath the heat of the blistering early autumn sun.
