Randolph-Macon Posts 6-3 Win Over Tennis

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – The Randolph-Macon tennis team posted a 6-2 win over Hampden-Sydney on Thursday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets squeaked out wins at #1 double (8-5) and #2 doubles (9-7), but the team of Lawrence Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy) and David Dodson (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) rolled to an 8-2 win at the #3 flight.

Although the Tigers lost four of six singles matches, every match needed at least one set to go to a seventh game. Zack King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) got the win at #3 at 6-4, 7-5 while Trent Singleton (Richmond, VA / Douglas S. Freeman) was victorious in a marathon match 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5) at the #5 flight. Thacher Jennings (Lynchburg, VA / E.C. Glass) narrowly fell 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 at #4 while Fitzhugh Johnson (Fredericksburg, VA / James Monroe) dropped  the #2 flight 7-5, 6-3. J.B. Weaver (Raleigh, NC / Needham Broughton) lost at #1 by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-0), and Bowers was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at #6.

Hampden-Sydney closes out the regular season at home on Saturday at 1 pm vs. Washington & Lee.
