FERRUM, VA - The Hampden-Sydney tennis team surrendered zero games in eight of 15 sets to breeze past Ferrum College 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The game was postponed on Monday but reinstated to the original date and time.
Kevin Calhoun (Richmond, VA / Mills Godwin) and Ian Sammler (Petersburg, VA / Prince George) won 8-2 at #1 doubles. That would be the only two games the Tigers would surrender in doubles play. Zack King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) and Watt Mountcastle (Richmond, VA / Freeman) won 8-0 at #2 doubles while Ryan Davis (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) and Franklin Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy) also won 8-0 at the #2 flight.
Calhoun won 6-2, 6-2 at #1 singles while King took a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the #2 seed. Sammler rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3, and Davis won 6-1, 6-0 at the #4 flight. Bowers earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 while Mountcastle took a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6.
The Tigers host Randolph-Macon on Monday, April 16, at 4 pm.
