Tigers Succumb to Bridgewater 9-0

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - The Hampden-Sydney tennis team succumbed to Bridgewater College 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Brandon Larson and Evan Stack defeated the #1 doubles team of Kevin Calhoun (Richmond, VA / Mills Godwin) and Ian Sammler (Petersburg, VA / Prince George) 8-3. Barrett Polan (Greenwich, CT / Greenwich) and Zach King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) lost a hard fought match 8-6 to Peter Hawkins and Christian Lynn. Mike Cable and Brent Floyd rounded out doubles with an 8-3 #3 victory over Ryan Davis (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) and Franklin Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy).

Hawkins took down Calhoun at #1 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Larsen won at #2 6-0, 6-3 over King. Sammler fell 6-2, 6-3 to Stack at the #3 flight while Davis lost 6-1, 6-1 to FLoyd at #4. Houghton Flanagan (Charlotte, NC / Myers Park) lost to Lynn in straight sets but forced a tiebreaker in the second set, losing it 7-6 (7-1). Polan rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Sam Churchill.

Tennis will travel to Ferrum, VA, on Tuesday to play Ferrum College at 4 pm.
