FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Zack King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) lead the Tennis Tigers at the USTA ITA Southeast Regional Championships, advancing to the semi-finals of the B3 singles flight. The championship featured numerous teams from across the region for a weekend long tournament.
King defeated Brent Stevenson 6-3, 7-6(3) in the first round on the B3 singles flight, which consisted of 16 players. In the quarterfinals, Kind dispatched of Alec Turner 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals. In the semis, Andrew Gear took down King 6-4, 6-1. King would go on to win the B3 singles title.
Ian Sammler (Prince George, VA / Prince George) lost in the first round on the B4 flight by a score of 6-2, 7-6(7) to move to the consolation bracket. Sammler automatically advanced to the consolation semi-finals due to his opponent being unable to play. In the semi-finals, he easily defeated Kyle Feeley 8-2 to go to the consolation finals. In a barn burner finals match, Sammler took the consolation title by a final of 9-8(4).
Ryan Davis (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) also competed in the B4 flight, falling 6-3, 6-3 in the first round and 8-3 in the consolation quarterfinals. Franklin Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy) took to the court in the B5 bracket. He lost a hard fought and competitive first round match by a score of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(6). In the consolation quarterfinals, he defeated James Villari 8-5 but would fall 8-4 to Dylan Heafner in the consolation semi-finals.
Barrett Polan (Greenwich, CT / Greenwich) also advanced to the B5 consolation semi-finals. He lost his first round match 6-1, 6-2 but rebounded in the consolation quarterfinals with a decisive 8-2 win. He would go down 8-3 to Tyler Cheatham in the semi-finals. Michael Baxter (Richmond, VA / Mills Godwin) easily won his first round match in the B6 flight 6-0, 6-3 to move on to the quarterfinals where he would lose 6-3, 6-3.
