Tiger Swimming Finishes 5th at the Second Day of the R-MC Yellow Jacket Invitational

ASHLAND, VA - The Hampden-Sydney Swimming team finished fifth with 323.5 points at the two-day RandolphRandolph-Macon Yellow Jacket Invitational on Sunday.

The Tigers were able to set numerous season best times during the meet. John Sheffield (Salem, VA / Salem), Treavor Hartwell (Palmyra, VA / Fluvanna County), Daniel Moyers (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Academy), and Andy Snow (Deltaville, VA / Christchurch) placed eighth in the 200 yard medley relay with a H-SC season best time of 1:49.26. Moyers also placed eighth in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:03.81, also a season best time. Alton Brieske finished the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:06.96 to place 10th, the top time on the team this season. Ke Shang (Hampden-Sydney, VA) completed the 100 yard backstroke in 1:01.77, easily setting the best time of the season for H-SC, while Sheffield followed closely behind at 1:01.88. 

The Tigers placed seventh in the 800 yard freestyle relay as Shang, Dreux Elliott, Evan Harris (Mechanicsville, VA / Atlee), and Grayson Kelley (Chesapeake, VA / Hickory) completed the race in 8:57.26. Snow, Brieske, Lee Ayscue (Lynchburg, VA / Virginia Episcopal), and Hartwell posted a 1:37.71 in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Sheffield, Brieske, Moyers, and Hartwell teamed to go 4:06.04 in the 400 yard medley relay. Calvin Charles (Fort Washington, MD / Friendly) took 10th in the 1650 yard freestyle in 23:38.65. Shang finished the 200 yard butterfly in 2:31.81 to take sixth.

Hampden-Sydney travels to Greensboro College on Friday.
