Swimming Rolls to Two Wins


ROANOKE, VA - The Hampden-Sydney swimming team opened their season on Saturday with two convincing victories - 62-33 over Greensboro and 76-18 over Gallaudet.

Ke Shang, Alton Brieske, John Lambiase, and Andy Snow took first place in the 200 medley relay in 50:38, outpacing the field by over two seconds. Snow took the 50 free event by .09 seconds, finishing in 23.78, and Kelley Grayson won the 500 free in convincing fashion, winning by nearly eight seconds in a time of 6:15.94.  Brieske took top honors in the 100 breatstroke, finishing in 1:07.22.

Grayson also finished runner up in the 1000 free and 200 free while Evan Harris placed second in the 200 IM. Lambiase narrowly took second in the 100 fly, and Brieske completed the 100 free in second place. Shang was the second faster swimmer in the 100 backstroke while Treavor Hartwell also finished second in the 100 breaststroke.

Hampden-Sydney returns to the pool next Saturday at Sweet Briar College.
