H-SC Opens Inaugural Season at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, VA - The Hampden-Sydney swimming team opened their inaugural season on Saturday with a 77-61 loss at Randolph-Macon, who also is competing in the first season after renewing the defunct team.

Josh Hamilton (Herndon, VA/Herndon) finished the 50 yard freestyle in third, just 0.98 seconds behind Corey Kreiter from Macon. Dylan Keen (Fredericksburg, VA/Massaponax) beat out two Yellow Jacket swimmers to win the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:24.77. Teammates William Graf (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) and Nik Kasper (Dayton, OH/Culver Academies) battled it out at the 200 yard IM with Graf winning out in a time of 2:42.96. Two H-SC relay teams raced against each other in the 400 yard freestyle as the team of Sam Smith (Kitty Hawk, NC/First Flight), Ke Shang (Beijing, China/Beijing No. 35), Keen, and Hamilton took down the team of Paul Salmon (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton), Graf, Lee Ayscue (Lynchburg, VA/Virginia Episcopal), and John Bishop (Guntersville, AL/Randolph School) in a time of 3:36.76.
