Soccer Vanquishes Shenandoah 4-0

WINCHESTER, VA - The Hampden-Sydney Soccer team vanquished the Hornets of Shenandoah University 4-0 on Saturday night in ODAC competition.

The Tigers displayed a remarkably efficient offensive effort on the night, needing just 10 shots with eight on goal to score four times. James Lawrence (Midlothian, VA / Midlothian) finished on a Bo Burns (Raleigh, NC / Leesville Road) pass in the 12th minute to put the Tigers ahead 1-0. Robert Stephens (Williamsburg, VA / Lafayette) then took over the game. Stephens scored in the 43rd minute courtesy of a feed from Leo Kowalski (Glen Allen, VA / Deep Run). Stephens then found the back of the net again in the 63rd minute when Lawrence found him for the score. He then completed the hat trick off a header at 72:52 as Kowalski provided his second assist on the night.

The Tigers held a 10-9 advantage in shots while the Hornets recorded a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Blake Carrey (North Chesterfield, VA / Deep Run) and James Dutcher each made four saves in the net.

The Tigers travel to Lynchburg this Wednesday for a 7 pm contest against the Lynchburg College Hornets.
