The Tigers controlled time of possession for the majority of the first half and put together a multitude of scoring opportunities, but strong goalkeeping from Andrew Yoder and timely EMU defensive plays kept the Tigers off the scoreboard.
The second half proved to provide more even play and the Royals scored off a set piece as Joao Downs tallied the goal in the 68th minute. With the Tigers pushing forward more on offense, Christian Rhine was able to sneak behind the defense and finished off a breakaway opportunity courtesy of a Caleb Galloday pass. Rhine appeared to be offside, but the referee did not call the potential infraction.
H-SC held a 16-13 advantage in shots and an 11-7 edge in shots on goal, but seven offside penalties against the Tigers put an end to several possessions that had strong goal scoring potential. James Lawrence (Midlothian, VA / Midlothian) and Curran Blackwell (Wilson, NC / Greenfield) each had three shots on goal while Blake Carrey (North Chesterfield, VA / Deep Run) recorded five saves. Andrew Yoder was stout in net, posting 10 saves.
