Cal Lutheran Soccer Prevails 3-0

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Cal Lutheran soccer completed their two-game trip in Virginia with a 3-0 win over Hampden-Sydney.

The weather was not kind to the Tigers or the Kingsmen this afternoon. The last 15 minutes of the first half and most over intermission was witness to heavy rain and winds with thunder rumbling nearby. But the Hampden-Sydney and Farmville area was lucky to dodge the vicious severe thunderstorms forecasted for much of the east coast and narrowly completed the game before campus lost power after black clouds rolled through town just near the end of the game.

Two of the the Cal Lutheran goals came off broken plays in the front of the net with the Kingsmen able to capitalize on the opportunities. Raul Yepez posted the first goal at 13:21, and Peter Keks and David Lee added on insurance goals in the 73rd and 81st minutes.

Hampden-Sydney was able to put themselves in position to score but was not able to string together the last pass or two to complete the possession with a score. An even game everywhere else on the stat sheet, each team had 15 shots, seven shots on goal, and three corner kicks. Rey Rivera-Ramos tallied seven saves for Cal Lutheran while Blake Carrey (North Chesterfield, VA / Deep Run) posted four saves.

Hampden-Sydney hits the road on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt at Ferrum College at 4 pm.
