HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – The Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse team will travel to Roanoke College this weekend for a 3 pm ODAC Tournament Semifinal contest. The Maroons, the #1 seed, will host both semifinal contests on Saturday and the championship game on Sunday. Lynchburg squares off vs. Washington & Lee at 5:30 in the second semifinal game.
HOW DID H-SC GET HERE?
The Tigers earned the #4 seed and thus hosted the #5 seed Randolph-Macon on Tuesday. Despite torrential down pours throughout the game, the Tigers came out on top 14-11. James Hughes (Raleigh, NC / Middle Creek) posted five goals and two assists, Mike Funk (Chantilly, VA / Middleburg) had four goals and three assists, and Duncan Morris (Charlottesville, VA / Christchurch) contributed three goals and one helper.
HOW DID ROANOKE GET HERE?
The Maroons finished the regular season 8-1 in a three way tie atop the ODAC standings. Roanoke won the tiebreaker due to having the best goal differential vs. the other two tied teams, Washington & Lee and Lynchburg. For being the top seeded team, Roanoke received a bye to the semifinals.
REGULAR SEASON MATCHUP
Roanoke won the regular season contest 13-7 on April 19. The Maroons led 6-3 at halftime, but the Tigers scored three goals in the first 2:01 of the third quarter to tie the game at 6-6. Roanoke then went on to score the next five, two of the man-down variety, to pull away for the win. Thomas Armstrong (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Latin) had four points on two goals and two assists while Morris scored twice. David Noftsinger (Richmond, VA / Collegiate School) made 14 saves. Tyler McWilliams led Roanoke with three scores and two assists while Joey Dishaw and Will Pilat each tacked on two goals and an assist.
