The Tigers got off to a quick start when goals from Thomas Armstrong (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Latin) and Mike Funk (Chantilly, VA / Middleburg) within the first five minutes put H-SC up 2-0. An Abbot Wallenborn (Crozet, VA / Western Albemarle) goal at 8:24 followed by a Jake Koferl (Huntersville, NC / Lake Norman) score at 4:48 put the Tigers out to a convincing 4-0 advantage. Nick Benhoff won the ensuing face-off and dished it off to Kyle Snodderly as the Yellow-Jackets needed just 13 seconds to get back within three, and Joseph Edwards found the back of the net at 3:13 to keep things interesting and making it a 4-2 game. Armstrong netted what would prove to be the game-winner with just five seconds left in the first quarter.
The two teams traded a goal apiece in the second, but a James Hughes (Raleigh, NC / Middle Creek) tally at 4:39 gave H-SC a 7-3 halftime advantage. A 3-1 Tigers third quarter finished off the game as neither team scored in the fourth.
Wallenborn tallied three goals and two assists while Armstrong and Hughes each scored twice. Koferl went 8-for-14 on face-offs against statistically one of the best face-off midfielders in the nation along with seven ground balls, a goal, and an assist. Casey Bendall (Richmond, VA / St. Christopher's) recorded six ground balls and three caused turnovers. David Noftsinger (Richmond, VA / Collegiate) notched eight saves.
Kyle Snodderly posted two goals for the Yellow Jackets while Jason Andrew was forced into seven turnovers. Nick Benhoff won 9-of-17 face-offs with nine ground balls, and Brian Davis stopped 12 shots.
H-SC held advantages of 29-20 in ground balls, 17-22 in giveaways, and 31-24 in shots. Each team won 9-of-18 face-offs, and the Tigers limited Randolph-Macon to an 0-for-5 output on extra man opportunities.
