Sheppard, Armstrong, Hawthorne, and Martin Earn USILA Honors

PERRY, NY - Four Tiger Lacrosse players earned individual honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Tuesday.

Cameron Sheppard and Thomas Armstrong were named USILA Honorable Mention All-Americans. Ryan Martin and Jess Hawthorne were tabbed to the Scholar All-America Team. Hawthorne was additionally named to the South team for the annual USILA Division III North-South All-Star Game.

Sheppard, a defenseman, frequently was tasked with guarding a team's top offensive threat this year and often limited or shut down the player en route to also being First-Team All-ODAC performer. A team captain, he helped lead a defensive unit that posted a 7.17 goals against average in the regular season, the second best mark in the ODAC. Additionally, he forced a career-high 15 turnovers on the season.

Armstrong was named a Second-Team All-ODAC midfielder after a phenomenal season as a go-to player. He tied for the team-high in points with 48 but led the team in goals with 36 and added 13 assists. Armstrong was especially deadly on extra-man opportunities with 10 man-up goals and also was an astute defender, forcing eight turnovers. He finished eighth overall in the ODAC in points and fifth in goals. In ODAC only games, he also was fifth in points and sixth in goals.

Martin, a Second-Team All-ODAC player, closed out his career with 25 goals, eight assists, and 33 points in his senior campaign. For his four-year career, he totaled 109 points, 73 goals, and 36 assists. He is 18th in school history in points, 19th in goals, and 21st in assists.

Hawthorne was named a Third-Team All-ODAC player as a senior and closed out his four-year stay at Hampden-Sydney with a career-high 33 goals and 38 points in 2013. His 33 points is 12th in the ODAC. In ODAC games, he totaled 18 goals to place 13th. He scored four goals in a road win over NCAA Tournament participant Ohio Wesleyan.
