Tiger Lacrosse Rolls Past Ferrum 13-3

FERRUM, VA - The Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the contest en route to a 13-3 win on the road at Ferrum College Saturday afternoon.

Hampden-Sydney improves to 4-2 while Ferrum drops to 5-3.

Jess Hawthorne (Richmond, VA / Collegiate) got the scoring going at 12:46 after he finished off a Mike Funk (Chantilly, VA / Middleburg) assist, and Jake Koferl (Huntersville, NC / Lake Norman) scored less than a minute later to make it 2-0 Tigers just under three minutes in. James Hughes (Raleigh, NC / Middle Creek) then scored back-to-back goals at 10:09 and and 8:17. Koferl added his second goal with 1:30 to go in the first quarter, and Funk finished off the opening period with another score with 35 ticks left on the clock. Hughes pocketed the Tigers seventh goal with 10:07 left in the half before Ferrum got on the scoreboard following a Tyler Poage man-up goal with 5:37 to go in the half.

H-SC would go on to score three goals in both the second and third quarters while Ferrum found the back of the net once in each of the second, third, and fourth frames.

Hughes posted four goals and two assists on six shots while Hawthorne contributed a hat trick. Koferl added on two scores and one assist, and Funk handed out four assists with one goal. Brad Mostowy (Atlanta, GA / Alpharetta (GA) / Trinity Pawling (NY)) was total domination on face-offs, winning 15 of his 16 attempts along with 15 ground balls and one goal. David Noftsinger (Richmond, VA / Collegiate School) and Cody Hornung (Bala Cynwyd, PA / Lower Merion) each played one half in net as the two combined for 12 saves.

Poage was the lone multi-point contributor for Ferrum with a goal and an assist. 

H-SC outshot Ferrum 37-20 and limited the Panthers to a 1-3 performance on man-up opportunities. Hampden-Sydney won 16-of-20 face-offs and held a 36-23 edge in ground balls.
