Kyle Fox's Seven Points Propels Hampden-Sydney to a 14-5 Win Over Randolph

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Senior Kyle Fox (Manassas, VA / Osbourn Park) netted seven points on four goals and three assists to propel the Hampden-Sydney lacrosse team to a 14-5 win over Randolph College on Senior Day.

Nate Norbo (Waterford, VA/Loudon Valley) finished off an Eric Gorsline (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) pass with 12:52 left in the first quarter to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. John Croney and Colton Wood scored the next two goals to give the visiting WildCats a 2-1 lead with 2:40 to go. Gorsline then tied up the game off a Fox assist at the 1:35 mark to make it a 2-2 game after 15 minutes of action.

H-SC scored the first two goals of the second quarter, two courtesy of Ryan Martin (Midlothian, VA / Cosby), to take a 6-2 lead. The Tigers went into halftime up 7-3 and scored all four goals in the third quarter to put away the game for good.

In addition to his seven points, Fox also scooped four ground balls. Carter Mavromatis (Virginia Beach, VA / Cape Henry) continued his tear through the record books with two goals and three assists, giving him 104 career assists. He now needs five assists to break into the top five in ODAC history for career assists. Thomas Armstrong (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Latin) posted three scores while Martin finished with two goals. James Hughes (Raleigh, NC / Middle Creek), Evan Boden (Washington, DC / St. Stephens & St. Agnes), and Gorsline each contributed a goal and an assist. Dontae Buck (Baltimore, MD / Baltimore City College) went 9-17 on face-offs with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Wood scored a game-high four goals, John Grundy won 10-of-19 face offs with eight ground balls, and Kevin McCracken posted 13 saves for Randolph. Hampden-Sydney held advantages in shots (46-15), ground balls (55-37), and turnovers (17-33). The Tigers went 20-for-21 on clears compared to just 23-for-36 for the WildCats.
