HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Head Coach Ray Rostan recently announced Nate Cundy (Midlothian,VA/James River), David Beman (Alpharetta, GA/Alpharetta), and Carter Mavromatis (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry) as the 2012 Tiger lacrosse team captains. The three captains, along with a strong senior class, will be counted upon to lead a talented squad that returns two All-Americans and 7 All-ODAC selections as they work toward the program's 5th ODAC Championship.
Mavromatis, a senior midfielder, was a First-Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-American in 2011. As a junior, he posted 56 points on 26 goals and 30 assists. His 30 assists led the ODAC while he was fifth in points and 12th in goals. Also dangerous on man-up situations, he scored eight times with the man advantage finishing fourth in the conference. Carter will once again be expected to be one of the top playmakers nationally as a senior. Carter is a biology/pre-dental major at Hampden-Sydney.
Cundy, a senior attackman, was fourth on the Tiger squad in goals (25) and points (31). A highly efficient player, he was the only player on the team and in the ODAC to finish with a shot percentage over 50% at 54.3%. One of the hardest workers in the program, Coach Rostan expects that Cundy will be one of the Tiger's strongest threats. After battling injuries throughout his career, Nate is fully recovered and expected to have his best year.
Beman, a senior defensive midfielder, played in 15 of the 17 games in 2011 and scored two goals. With great character on and off the field, Beman will be counted upon to be one of the top leaders on the Tiger team defense.
The Tigers will open the 2012 season when they travel to Mary Washington on Feb. 18 for a 1 PM contest. The 15-game schedule includes six teams ranked in the 2011 Top 20 national poll.
