Lacrosse Team Goes Through SEAL Training
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - On Saturday, October 1, the Hampden-Sydney College Lacrosse team participated in a leadership and physical training program led by class of 1988 Alumnus, Deane Cheatham. The program is based upon the SEAL Team PT program founded by retired Navy SEAL John McGuire, the CEO and Founder of Richmond, VA, based SEAL Team Physical Training, Inc. Cheatham has been training within John McGuire's program for many years and now assists John McGuire in several of his programs.
The program is designed to push each person to their physical and mental limits while also demonstrating and developing teamwork, work ethic, and leadership. "Deane did an amazing job working with 45 of our lacrosse student-athletes while conveying team unity and leadership skills. This was an excellent team building experience that will be invaluable in our growth as a team as we work to achieve our goals in 2012," said Head Coach Ray Rostan.
While the leadership training proved to greatly benefit the team in the last week of fall ball, the effects will carry over into the spring season as well. "The training helped our team realize the importance of continued individual and collective growth as we prepare for 2012. Our individual and team day-to-day work ethic will only go as far as our mind's will take us, and the training helped us stretch the boundaries of our work ethic," said Head Coach Ray Rostan.
Prior to working with the Tigers, Cheatham assisted McGuire in training the Virginia Commonwealth University men's basketball team. For more information on SEAL Team PT, please visit http://www.sealteampt.com
