SALEM, VA-For the second consecutive tournament, Hampden-Sydney golf has finished just one stroke away from first place as the Tigers shot a 607 to place second behind Bluefield College in the Roanoke Invitational this past weekend. Junior Rick O'Connell (Goochland, VA/Goochland) took home medalist honors as his two-day total of 146 was the event's lowest score.
Sophomore George Whiting (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) was the second Tiger to finish in the top-ten, as his 153 (+11) tied him for tenth overall. Sophomore Drew Arnold (Chatham, VA/Chatham) was just two strokes behind Whiting and tied for 20th.
Senior Sean Gatz (Newport News, VA/Menchville) posted rounds of 83 and 76 (+17) to finish 33rd overall, and freshman Thomas Cole (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) rounded out the group with a 162 (+20) for a 43rd place finish.
Lynchburg College finished five strokes behind the Tigers with a 612 to round out the top three teams.
The Tigers return to action and will wrap up the season in the ODAC Tournament. The event will be held at the Bay Creek Golf Club in Cape Charles, Virginia from April 21-23.
