BEAUFORT, SC-The Hampden-Sydney golf team took home third place honors in the recent TaylorMade-ADIDAS Intercollegiate at Dataw Island Club. The Tigers shot a 955 in the three-day event while Faulkner (919) and Centenary (947) placed first and second, respectively.
Sophomore George Whiting (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) led the way for the Tigers with a top-ten finish, placing seventh overall with rounds of 78, 77, and 78. Trey Cully (Studley, VA/Hanover) and Thomas Cole (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) were each ten strokes behind Whiting, tying for 27th. Cully had rounds of 82, 78, and 83, and Cole shot 75, 80, and 88.
Senior Sean Gatz (Newport News, VA/Menchville) tied for 30th, shooting just one stroke over Cully and Cole, with rounds of 83, 75, and 86. Sophomore Drew Arnold (Chatham, VA/Chatham) rounded out the group, and his rounds of 76, 84, and 87 placed him in 36th.
Centenary's Zander Winston took home medalist honors while finishing five over par after the three rounds (77, 73, 71).
Hampden-Sydney returns to action March 15 in the Jekyll Island Collegiate at the Pine Lakes Golf Course in Georgia.
