HARRISONBURG, VA-The Hampden-Sydney golf team finished sixth place in the Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament hosted by Bridgewater College on Sunday and Monday. The two-day event fielded 18 teams - including eight other ODAC schools. Milligan won the event shooting just three over par, and Bridgewater (+7) and Washington & Lee (+14) rounded out the top three.
Hampden-Sydney finished 29 over par and were led by junior Rick O'Connell (Goochland, VA/Goochland). O'Connell tied for fourth individually as his rounds of 71 and 72 kept him one under par.
Sophomore Drew Arnold (Chatham, VA/Chatham) was the second best finisher for the Tigers as his six over par (74, 76) tied him for 24th overall. Trey Cully (Studley, VA/Hanover) and George Whiting (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) each shot 12 over par to place 44th.
Senior Sean Gatz (Newport News, VA/Menchville) rounded out the group with rounds of 82 and 79 (+17) to tie for 62nd place.
Virginia Intermont's Trevor Banks won medalist honors by a large margin, shooting ten under par over the two rounds. Milligan's Whit Brown finished second at four under par, and Colby Francis of Lynchburg placed third at three under.
Hampden-Sydney returns to action on the 24th and 25th at the Manor in Farmville as the Tigers will host the Hampden-Sydney Invitational.
