HARRISONBURG, VA-Sophomore Rick O'Connell (Goochland, VA/Goochland) posted two rounds well under par to win medalist honors at the Tom Kinder Memorial hosted by Bridgewater College. O'Connell shot a 70 and 68 to finish the event six under par while helping the Tigers place third overall while shooting 18 over par, just one stroke behind second place finisher Washington & Lee. The host Eagles won the event while shooting seven over par.
Senior Ronnie Fultz (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) also had an impressive outing, tying for fifth at two over par courtesy a 71 and 75. Freshmen Drew Arnold (Chatham, VA/Chatham) and Trey Culley (Studley, VA/Hanover) finished third for Hampden-Sydney shooting 11 over par. Arnold posted scores of 81 and 74, and Culley posted an 82 and 73.
Junior Sean Gatz (Newport News, VA/Menchville) rounded out the group, and his 84 and 79 performances (+19) was good enough for 58th.
Hampden-Sydney will return to action at home as it hosts the Hampden-Sydney Invitational at the Manor. The tournament will start Sunday, Spetember 25.
