DATAW ISLAND, SC-Senior Ronnie Fultz (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) placed fourth overall in the TaylorMade-Adidas Intercollegiate to help the Hampden-Sydney golf team finish third in the eight team, three day tournament.
On a difficult course where nobody shot lower than a 75, Fultz paced the Tigers shooting rounds of 81, 78 and 79. Freshman Andrew Arnold (Chatham, VA/Chatham) also placed in the top-20 for the Tigers, tying for 12th place via a 79, 82, and 84.
Junior Sean Gatz (Newport News, VA/Menchville) shot rounds of 87, 85, and 82 to place 25th overall, and freshamn Trey Cully (Studley, VA/Hanover) rounded out the Tigers' third place finish tying for 35th overall, shooting 88, 86, and 90.
Guilford College finished first overall, finishing 36 strokes ahead of second place finisher Wake Tech Community College and 41 strokes ahead of the Tigers.
Sophomore Rick O'Connell (Goochland, VA/Goochland) was leading the Tigers after two rounds shooting 78 both days, trailing leader Noah Ratner by three strokes, but was disqualified for signing an incorrect scoresheet.
The Quakers' Noah Ratner, Mitch Robinette, and Dallas Page finished first, second, and third overall.
The Tigers' next tournament is the Jekyll Island Invitational at the Pine Lakes Golf Course on Jekyll Island, Georgia. The tournament will be played from March 16-18.
