Tigers Finish Fifth at Ted Keller Invitational

GLEN ALLEN, VA-The Hampden-Sydney golf team placed fifth out of 14 teams this weekend in the Ted Keller Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College. Freshman George Whiting (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) again led Hampden-Sydney with a sixth place finish shooting just two over par with a 73 on both days.

Junior Ronnie Fultz (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) was the next best finisher for Hampden-Sydney with a two day total of 153. Fultz's two rounds of 78 and 75 were good enough for 21st. Freshman Rick O'Connell (Goochland, VA/Goochland) posted a 33rd place finish with a 157 (74, 83).  

Not far behind O'Connell were senior Mike Dowd (Richmond, VA/Collegiate) and sophomore Sean Gatz (Newport News, VA/Menchville) who shot 158 and 159, respectively to round out the Tigers' team.

Guilford College won the event with an impressive 582, just six over par for the top four players. All four of the Quaker scores were in the top seven individually. Bridgewater's Travis Gahman, however, took home top individual honors shooting a first round 68 and second round 72 to finish four under par with a 140.

Hampden-Sydney returns to action this weekend, October 9-10, when it competes in the Virginia State Intercollegiate in Wintergreen, VA.
