HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Senior point guard Leon Hargrove (Raleigh, NC / Middle Creek) and junior point guard Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) have been named Basketball team captains for the 2014-15 season.

"We are proud to announce senior guard, Leon Hargrove and junior guard Mike Murray as our 2014-2015 captains for our basketball program," said Head Coach Dee Vick. "The title comes with a lot of responsibility, and these two men are prepared to lead us to new heights. Our captains are voted on by their teammates and coaches, and these guys earned the majority's support. Mike was a captain as a sophomore, and the experience will pay dividends for him this year. He did a great job as a sophomore, but I know he will do an even better job this year because he will be more comfortable in the role. Leon emerged as a leader during his junior year and will be poised to offer strong leadership in his final season. The two players are integral parts of our team both offensively and defensively. One of their biggest challenges for the upcoming year will be how quickly they can help bring the new players up to speed. We lost a lot off of last year's team and we will rely on some of our new players to help us win."

Hargrove was recently named the team's Defensive Player of the Year with his pesky on-ball defense and ability to force turnovers. He has played in 82 career games and has been a consistent player year-to-year on offense, shooting between 45.7% and 47.3% in his three seasons. Last year he averaged a career best 2.5 assists per game with a 2.3 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Murray served as a captain last year in only his sophomore season and earned the team's Leadership Award. A dynamic guard, he was named ODAC All-Tournament team in March and posted career-highs in points (11.6), field goal percentage (48.5%), three point percentage (41.0%), rebounds (3.1), and assists (3.5).
