HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The #24 Hampden-Sydney Tigers have returned to the national spotlight with a 24 national ranking according to D3Hoops.com. The 11-1 Tigers are currently on a nine game winning streak and will hit the road for the first time in a month and return to conference play for the first time since December 8 this Saturday afternoon. The Tigers will square off with Guilford College (10-2, 2-1 ODAC) at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 5 in Ragan-Brown Field House.
Hampden-Sydney is off to its best start since the 2005-06 season and is fresh off two wins in the Bojangles Holiday Challenge last weekend. The Tigers downed Huntingdon 99-54 and Johns Hopkins 73-58. Senior Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road) was named MVP after pouring in 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go with five rebounds, five steals, and four assists against the Blue Jays. Junior Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA/Maury) - featured on ESPN Sportscenter's Top-Ten Plays - and sophomore Kodie Critzer (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) also earned All-Classic Team honors.
While the Tigers are on a nine game hot streak, the Quakers have also been strong with five consecutive wins and a perfect 6-0 record at home. Senior guard and two-time First Team All-ODAC selection Josh Pittman leads the Quakers in minutes (32.2), scoring (15.7), assists (5.8), and steals (2.0).
Saturday's game is a pivotal ODAC match up with the Tigers in a three-way tie for first at a perfect 3-0 and the Quakers nipping on their heels at 2-1.
