HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Fans will get their first chance to watch this year's Hampden-Sydney Basketball team on November 5 at 7 pm as the Tigers host NCAA Division II St. Augustine's University. The game is open to the public and admission is free.
St. Augustine's is a scholarship-offering team and a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), annually one of the toughest Division II men's basketball conferences in the country. The Falcons finished with a 14-14 overall record along with an 8-8 mark in CIAA play while advancing to the second round of the CIAA Tournament during the 2011-12 season.
The Falcons return their leading scorer in Joel Kindred, who averaged 11.8 points a game as a sophomore, along with three of their top five scorers. Kindred was picked to the All-CIAA Preseason Men's Basketball Team while the Falcons were picked to finish last in the South Division.
Hampden-Sydney returns 77% of its points scored from last year along with 83% of its rebounds, 78% assists, 80% steals, and 88% blocks from a team that went 19-8 overall and 11-5 in the ODAC while finishing fourth in the conference and advancing to the semi-finals of the ODAC Tournament. Preseason All-American candidate Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road) is back in the mix for his senior season after leading the team in total points, rebounds, assists, and steals en route to earning Second-Team All-South Region and First-Team All-ODAC a season ago. Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA/Maury) is back for his junior year after having a breakout sophomore season that saw him emerge as the team's third leading scorer while also ranking first in rebounds and blocks per game, earning Third-Team All-ODAC honors.
