HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – With the 2011-12 basketball season off to a raucous start with tremendous student support, the Tigers will be altering the seating arrangements in Fleet Gymnasium starting with Wednesday's contest against Randolph College at 7 p.m.
The changes have been brought on due to the increased level of student participation and support for the basketball team. "The end zones have been full of guys, and the energy has been great. We have put our heads together to try and come up with a new solution to meet the needs of our students," said Tigers Head Coach Dee Vick.
In order to provide an improved atmosphere for the students, the team benches will be moved to the other side of the court, and the sideline bleachers will be moved up closer to the court to allow the students to sit together and be closer to the game. Students are still allowed and encouraged to sit in the end zone.
"If the team continues to perform at a high level and the crowds increase then hopefully we can fill the bleacher section with passionate fans. We would love to see the bulk of our students sit together so they can cheer in unison which has an immeasurable impact on the game," said Coach Vick. "The basketball team is extremely grateful for the early support and hopes we can continue to be the toughest place to play in the country."
