Hampden-Sydney and the Roundball Club Hosts Tip Off Banquet

RICHMOND, VA - On Friday, October 28, The Country Club of Virginia, located in Richmond, played host to the Sixth Annual Roundball Club Tip Off Banquet to help kick off the 2011-12 season of Hampden-Sydney Basketball.

Dave Wilson '63, President of the Roundball Club, got the evening started with the opening welcoming remarks while Keegan Wetzel (Mebane, NC/Eastern Alamance) guided the crowd through the invocation. Following dinner, Wilson provided the Roundball Club Remarks following by a speech from the Director of Athletics, Richard Epperson.

Tigers Head Coach Dee Vick '94 gave the Tiger Talk to much applause, which led into the introduction of the Tiger players. Each class had a representative who introduced the rest of his teammates in his class. For the freshmen, Leon Hargrove (Raleigh, NC/Middle Creek) and Alex Smith (Whitsett, NC/T. Wingate Andrews) were the presenters while sophomore Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA/Maury), junior Randall Ward (Richmond, VA/John Marshall), and senior Ben Jessee (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) represented their respective classes. Assistant Coach Larry Blunt closed out the evening with a wonderful speech and benediction.

A well attended gala, over 200 people came out to The Country Club of Virginia to support the Tigers for the start of what many are expecting to be a very exciting season. "We would like to thank Dave Wilson and the Roundball Advisory Board for helping put together another outstanding Tip Off Banquet. We also appreciate the numerous number of banquet sponsors who made the event possible. It was a fun and entertaining event for all who attended, and we hope this season will live up to the excitement generated from the evening," said Coach Vick.

The Tigers open their season in Alabama at the Huntingdon College Classic on November 18 and 19 with games against LaGrange and Huntingdon College. The first home game of the year will take place on November 30 against ODAC foe Eastern Mennonite University.
