O'Neill Wins Gammon Cup at Graduation

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Senior basketball forward Colin O'Neill (Fort Leavenworth, KS/Leavenworth) earned the College's top athletic award as he was given the Gammon Cup at graduation. The Gammon Cup is given each year in memory of Dr. Edgar Gammon, pastor of College Church from 1917-1923 and President of the College from 1939-1955, to the member of the graduating class who has best served the College. Character, scholarship, and athletic ability are considered.

O'Neill was a four-year member of the basketball team, a two-year starter, and a captain this past season. As a captain, O'Neill has provided excellent leadership both on and off the court while helping the Tigers improve their record by four games from the season before. Coach Vick credits O'Neill's leadership and his commitment to the team as the most important ingredients in helping to re-establish the foundation of this storied program.

In addition to his work on the court, O'Neill was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa this year and is an Academic All-ODAC honoree while graduating with a 3.425 GPA.

O'Neill becomes the sixth basketball player to be awarded the Gammon Cup and first since Drew Prehmus in 2008.
