Jessee and White Named Hoops Captains

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Head basketball coach Dee Vick has announced that juniors Ben Jessee (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) and Ru White (Chesterfield, VA/L.C. Bird) will join senior forward Colin O'Neill (Fort Leavenworth, KS/Leavenworth) as team captains.

"Both Ben and Ru have earned this honor by leading our team every day in practice," said Vick. "They both have great attitudes and are passionate about helping our team win in any way possible. They will join Colin, who has been one of the best leaders I have ever coached."

The junior duo has helped lead the Tigers to a 7-3 start to the season and a perfect 5-0 home record.

White, a junior swing man, has had a great start in his debut season with the Tigers. Through ten games, he is averaging 12.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals-per-game. He has also proven to be one of the Tigers' top defensive players and has become one of Vick's do-it-all players.

Jessee is right behind White as the third leading scorer on the team with 11.6 points-per-game. He also leads the team in playing time averaging 30.3 minutes and has connected on a team-high 21 three pointers. Jessee is pulling down 2.8 rebounds-per-game and dishing out 2.8 assists-per-game.

The trio of captains will join the rest of the Hampden-Sydney basketball team this Wednesday, January 5 as they take on ODAC-rival #3 Virginia Wesleyan College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
