NEWPORT NEWS, VA-After a stellar season with All-ODAC and All-Region honors, sophomore forward Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville) has earned First Team All-State honors voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). As a freshman, George was named the VaSID State Rookie of the Year.
In the 2010-11 season, George was best in the conference with 20.0 points-per-game and second in rebounding with 8.0 caroms-per-game. George also led the team and was fourth in the conference in field goal percentage connecting on 188 of his 325 attempts (56.1%).
The sophomore sensation posted nine double-doubles including a stretch of four consecutive double-digit scoring and rebounding. George managed to score in double figures in 25 of his 26 games while pouring in at least 20 on 15 occasions.
Ferrum's Derek Mitchell, the South Region Player of the Year (d3hoops.com), was named the Player of the Year while Virginia Wesleyan's Dave Macedo and D.J. Woodmore, the South Region Rookie of the Year, were named Coach and Rookie of the Year, respectively.
