HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The 2013 opening kickoff is 227 days away, but the Hampden-Sydney football team is already beginning to prepare and has named its four captains for the fall campaign. Set to lead the team are left tackle Will Ferrell (Blythewood, SC/Blythewood), safety Steven Fogleman (Mechanicsville, VA/Hanover), tight end Mike Goad (Chesterfield, VA/Matoaca), and quarterback Nash Nance (Calhoun, GA/Tennessee).
Ferrell, a 2012 captain, has already established himself as one of the best offensive linemen to don the garnet and gray. The two-time First Team All-ODAC selection has started in all 32 games of his career thus far and was recently honored as an AFCA First Team All-American.
Fogleman was also a captain in 2012 and will return for a fifth season after a season-ending injury sidelined him in 2011. That did not stop the safety from returning to the field in 2012 and earning First Team All-ODAC honors while finishing second on the team and ninth in the ODAC with 83 tackles.
Goad enters his senior a season a captain after having three productive seasons already for the Tigers. In three seasons, Goad has caught 71 passes while amassing 767 yards. He also earned Third Team All-ODAC honors in 2011 and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2012.
Nance will help lead the team in his second year with the program after transferring to Hampden-Sydney from Tennessee. In his first season, he earned First Team All-ODAC honors with a league-high 2,652 passing yards. He completed just shy of 60 percent of his attempts with 208 completions on 347 attempts while tossing 24 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions.
The quartet of captains and 2013 Tigers will begin their quest for the program's eighth ODAC Championship on September 7, 2013 as they host the Cougars of Averett University. To see the entire 2013 schedule, click here.
