HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney football team (2-1, 0-0 ODAC) heads to Washington, D.C. this weekend to open up its slate of seven straight ODAC games with the Cardinals of Catholic University (1-2, 0-0 ODAC). This is the first game in which the 2011 ODAC Champion Tigers will look to defend their title.
Hampden-Sydney and Catholic open their 2012 conference slates with the 22nd time meeting between the two on Saturday, continuing a series that began in 1983. The Tigers lead the all-time series 12-9 with victories in each of the past three seasons.
Under head coach Marty Favret, a graduate and former assistant at Catholic, Hampden-Sydney has posted a 10-2 record with the two losses coming in 2000 and 2008. The Tigers have been very successful in D.C., posting a 6-0 record under Favret with their last meeting being decided 35-27 in 2010.
Hampden-Sydney is coming off of a home loss (24-21 to Huntingdon) for the first time since 2008, while the Cardinals were idle last weekend; Catholic's last time out was a 35-17 loss at Carnegie Mellon.
