WACO, TX-Hampden-Sydney senior center Ben Rogers (Mechanicsville, VA/Hanover) has been named a First Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The honor comes following many others for Rogers. This season, he has earned First Team All-South Region (D3Football.com) and First Team All-ODAC honors while being named the Touchdown Club of Richmond Offensive Lineman of the Year and a semifinalist for the Campbell Award.
The two-time captain is the only player in program history to be named All-ODAC for all four years of his career. Rogers has also started in all 43 games of his career, which breaks a Hampden-Sydney record set by Hall of Fame inductee Butch Beverly '73. The senior captain has also been a vital part to helping the Tigers to a 35-5 record, two ODAC Championships and three NCAA appearances.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.
