FOREST, VA-Senior running back Kirk Rohle (Mechanicsville, VA/Hanover) was named this week's Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring five touchdowns in the Tigers' win over Guilford.
In the 63-49 win, Rohle exploded for 232 all purpose yards to go with five touchdowns. His 30 point output is the second highest single game total for a Tiger. On the ground, the senior back ran for four scores and 139 yards on 22 carries while averaging 6.3 yards-per-touch. Through the air, Rohle averaged 18.6 yards-per-catch hauling in five passes for 93 yards and a score. When the Tigers were down 14-0 early, Rohle was the first to move the chains and find the end zone for the Tigers. The Tigers could not get a first down in the first quarter, but Rohle then accounted for 38 of the 51 yards needed to score early in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7. He then tacked on two more touchdowns to end the second quarter, while giving the Tigers their first lead of the day – one they would not give up. He continued his work into the third quarter scoring both of Hampden-Sydney's touchdowns – his first on a seven yard run and second on a 43-yard reception. His longest rush came on a 41-yard run that set up his fourth touchdown of the day.
On the season, Rohle leads the ODAC in scoring averaging 11.2 points-per-game courtesy 15 total touchdowns. He is also atop the league with 160.5 all purpose yards each Saturday. His 102.2 rushing yards-per-game and 818 overall rushing yards are second in the league.
For his career, Rohle has scored 214 points and is 12 points shy of the fifth highest career total in program history (226 - Billy Benson '58). In addition, he has 1,996 career rushing yards to his name.
Rohle and the Tigers will return to action this Saturday, November 5th as they host the Generals of Washington & Lee in the game to decide the 2011 ODAC Champion. Kick off is set for 1:00 pm.
